Introducing AjPHA President Sabine Lazo's
2018 - 2019 Presidential Service Project, Color the Community

Hello everyone! Sabine Lazo here. The past year, I’ve had the honor of serving as your president of the Texas Junior Paint Horse Club, a position which has taught me so much and truly enabled me to grow my leadership skills and further appreciate the incredible Paint community of Texas. This year, I look forward to continuing in as TjPHC president, but I am also excited to seize a new opportunity- the chance to serve as president of the American Junior Paint Horse Association.

As AjPHA president, my goals for the next year are manifold. One of the items on my checklist is launching a successful presidential project which will benefit all AjPHA members. With this in mind, I introduce to you my 2018-19 presidential service project: Color the Community.

Color the Community will seek to improve the lives of AjPHA members and their communities alike. We will accomplish this by incentivizing community service and endowing American Paint Horse Foundation scholarships in a joint endeavor. The project will work by tying these two goals together and rewarding members for hours served within their community.

Members can assist the project in a number of ways: 1), by volunteering within the community and logging their hours served online at, 2), by securing the sponsorships of businesses or individuals who will back the hours members earn with monetary donations, or 3), by simply raising money for youth scholarships.

Through the hour sponsorship program, members’ service hours will be compensated through donations, which will in turn go to endow youth scholarships through the APHF. This process will allow the program to benefit youth through money raised AND hours logged, a win for individuals and the association as a whole. Individual participants will also be eligible to win amazing prizes at the end of the year for logging the most hours within their zone and the entire association.

To kick off this endeavor, I challenge all Texas youth one thing- log some hours before your next show! However you earn this time- simply volunteering at a local food pantry or nursing home, organizing a barn-wide food or clothing drive, or even just raising money for the American Paint Horse Foundation’s scholarships- you will be helping yourself and other AjPHA members raise money and Color the Community!

If you have any questions, please email me at Thank you all so much for your support, and I can’t wait to see what this next year with TPHC brings!
